Impact-based bone loading uses short bouts of landing to expose the skeleton to forces from multiple directions. The key mechanism is ground reaction force: the body meets a surface that does not move, and the landing sends stress through the skeletal system, prompting a stronger-bone response. Jump height is secondary; low depth jumps or pogo-style jumps can create the intended signal when the landing is deliberate. This differs from ordinary running, which is largely uniplanar, and from a trampoline, which absorbs and returns much of the force. The dose is intentionally small—up to about ten minutes, three times per week. Where impact is unsafe or unavailable, heavy strength training remains the fallback for improving bone density.
